Wheelchair Friendly Style

Taylor and I have been best friends for 5+ years so naturally her husband has become a very close friend of mine as well. When Taylor became pregnant, not only was I so excited to become an Auntie Leah again, but was so excited to design her nursery! I knew her nursery would need special consideration because Paul is in a wheelchair and was super excited to take on a new challenge.

The Furniture:

Her crib was donated by Semper Fi Fund, and allows Paul any and all access he needs to Baby Bear while keeping Bear’s safety an utmost priority. It is such an awesome crib and Semper Fi does amazing things for wounded veterans! As for the changing table, Taylor originally mentioned she wanted to get a desk or table and she would just sit while changing Bear’s diapers. As an experienced mom I knew there was no way she’d be able to sit to change diapers once Bear was older (IYKYK, changing diapers can be like wrestling an alligator). Having worked a corporate job in the past I’m very familiar with adjustable height desks, so we began the search for a stylish one that could work for both Taylor and Paul’s height needs. This Branch desk is perfect! I’m honestly convinced it should go in all nurseries because hardly any couple is the exact same height, and changing diapers at just a couple inches too low can be a back breaker! We used an existing cabinet in her home as her changing station storage in order to save money, and opted for a play mat instead of a rug for more functionality and easy cleaning. Our other best friend Kristen and her husband made the shelf and white piece of art for his wall.

The Color:

The dark walls are a statement for sure! If you know Taylor you know she loves a dark green and we definitely wanted to incorporate her signature color. When I brought up the idea of painting it ALL green, she loved the idea but was hesitant it would be too dark. Thanks to the rendering process, Taylor was able to truly envision what it would look like in the end and was comfortable to move forward.

Every room, no matter the special considerations, can be beautiful
